Nothing is more frustrating than a manicure that chips after just a few days. With these tricks, you'll significantly extend the life of your manicure!
1. Degrease Your Nails
Before application, clean your nails with alcohol or acetone to remove natural oils. Polish adheres much better to a clean surface.
2. Don't Skip Base Coat
Base coat is not optional! It creates an even surface and helps the polish adhere better.
3. Thin Layers
Two thin layers are always better than one thick one. Thick layers dry unevenly and chip faster.
4. Seal the Free Edge
Apply each layer (base, color, top) over the nail edge as well. This "cap" prevents lifting and chipping.
5. Wait Between Layers
Give each layer 2 minutes to dry before applying the next. Rushing is the enemy of a perfect manicure!
6. Top Coat Every 2-3 Days
Refresh your top coat every few days to maintain shine and add a protective layer.
7. Wear Gloves
When cleaning, washing dishes, or gardening, protect your hands with gloves.
8. Avoid Hot Water
Very hot water can cause polish to expand and contract, leading to chipping.
9. Moisturize Cuticles
Dry cuticles can pull on the polish. Use cuticle oil daily.
10. Choose Quality Products
Not all polishes are created equal. Invest in quality products for better, longer-lasting results.
